We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

Do chiropractors treat children and babies?

Absolutely! The first few years of life come with lots of bumps and falls as your child learns to crawl, walk, etc. When joints (spinal, cranial or otherwise) are not moving properly, they can irritate the nervous system and this may lead to dysfunction or discomfort. In kiddos, this manifests differently than adults. Ways to know if your child may need care include poor sleep, nursing difficulties, torticollis or constipation. We believe in preventative medicine as well as treating acute problems. Regular chiropractic care helps to restore function, and supports the body in growing and healing itself.

Is it better to “workout” before or after a physiotherapy treatment?

To benefit most from a physiotherapy treatment, it is better to “workout” before a treatment rather than immediately after. The goal of treatment is to help you move better with less pain and stiffness. Sometimes this involves changing patterns of movement that your body has had for awhile. It can take your body time to “digest” these changes and adapt accordingly. It’s best to let your treatment settle for 24 hours (or more if recommended by your physiotherapist) before returning to vigorous exercise.

Who can get cranial/sacral treatment?

Anyone! If you fall into the pediatrics category, the geriatrics category or are anywhere in between. Everyone can benefit from Cranio-sacral therapy.

Should I still see my physiotherapist /chiropractor/ massage therapist?

At Revive, we are all about working as a team to get you to be the best you can be! We communicate often (as long as you have consented to it) and refer back and forth in order to provide you with the best possible outcome. We are very willing to communicate and refer to practitioners outside of our clinic as well.

We do believe that a person can be over treated. So, we generally advise to leave 3 to 4 days between treatments in order to allow your body to adapt to the treatment and allow us to figure out what is and isn’t working for you. These are general guidelines and of course, recommendations will be made specifically for each individual case.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncturists use only sterilized, single use, disposable needles that are fine, wire-like, and are made of stainless steel.  Acupuncture needles do not cut the skin like standard hollow hypodermic needles. Instead, their cone-shaped points separate the tissues and slip between the cells.

There are minimal adverse effects or risks associated with acupuncture.  Acupuncture promotes the body’s ability to heal; it does not add or take anything away from the body.

In Alberta, those who are registered to practice acupuncture (RAc) are graduates of comprehensive programs and have passed the Registration Exams designed by the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta.  Acupuncture is governed provincially by the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta and is regulated under the Health Disciplines Act.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a therapeutic treatment that stimulates the body’s ability to heal.  It can reduce or eliminate pain and improve overall bodily functioning.  Acupuncture is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been practiced for over 3000 years.  Acupuncture has proven effective in the treatment of both acute and chronic disorders.  Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins. Endorphins help to block pain messages and benefit the body by promoting the biochemical restoration of internal regulatory systems.  With acupuncture, overall bodily functioning can be improved.

The American National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization recognize acupuncture as an effective treatment for over 50 conditions, including: addiction, arthritis, anxiety, chronic fatigue, colitis, depression, digestive problems, fertility enhancement, fibromyalgia, IBS, menstrual irregularities, pain, sciatica, sleep disturbances and stress.

What does acupuncture feel like?

A variety of sensations – warmth, tingling, dullness, or heaviness – may be experienced when receiving acupuncture treatments.  These sensations can occur at the site of insertion or they may be felt a distance from the insertion site.  These sensations indicate the movement of energy.  This movement of energy can lead to a favourable outcome for treatment.  Most patients feel relaxed and comfortable during treatments.

How many treatments are recommended?

The number of treatments varies depending upon the individual and their condition.  For acute conditions, only a few treatments may be necessary.  For chronic or complex conditions, a longer series of treatments may be recommended.
