Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) and Trigger Point Dry Needling are treatments that uses acupuncture needles to address problems with nerves and muscles.
When nerves are injured or irritated, they become supersensitive, and the muscles they supply become shortened and tight. Dr. Chan Gunn, from Vancouver, found that by inserting an acupuncture needle into the tender muscle, the muscle will contract, and then relax or lengthen. This decreases compression on the nerve, and voilà, less pain.
