Instrument Adhesion Release (IAR®)

Posted By Bronwen Samuel / / No Comments

An instrument based form of manual treatment that is designed to effectively remove adhesion without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. It’s also one of the few instruments on the market that has a proper hands-on training program to teach the provider exactly where and how to treat your problem. Common conditions in which IAR is more effective than MAR or ART are tendinitis of the Achilles and elbows (tendinopathy), forearm pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, anterior shin splints, and plantar fasciitis. Manual Adhesion Release (MAR®)

Posted By Bronwen Samuel / / No Comments

Is one of the leading soft tissue treatments to reduce scar tissue/adhesion. Adhesion is one of the most common causes of pain, but unfortunately it is a condition that is often overlooked. Adhesion acts like glue among muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and even nerves. As a result, this reduces flexibility, strength, and stability to the body. Adhesion along nerves can cause numbness, burning, aching, tension, tingling, and in some cases weakness. This is called nerve entrapment and can happen in an estimated 156 locations throughout the body. Learn more about adhesion and nerve entrapment on our problems page.

Visceral Manipulation

Posted By cmoser / / No Comments

Visceral Manipulation – that’s quite the mouthful. Simply put, it means our specially-trained therapists give you a specific kind of manual therapy to relieve pain. They focus on your internal organs (your viscera) and address any problems the organs have with moving.

Think about it: your internal organs, such as your liver, kidneys and intestines, are in perpetual motion. When you breathe, walk and stretch, they move in your chest and abdomen. Restrict their ability to move, and your body will compensate. But that can lead to pain and other troublesome symptoms, sometimes occurring far away from the source. Imagine scar tissue around the lungs. With every breath you take, the scar tissue alters the normal pattern of movement, and, believe it or not, will likely result in back and neck pain as well as limited shoulder movement.

Our therapists evaluate your entire body to assess the source of the problem and then apply gentle pressure to get your organs moving again as they should. So whether you’re suffering from physical trauma or are affected by infection, pollution or poor posture (who isn’t, really?), Visceral Manipulation can help! Many of our patients feel much better after just three to five sessions.

Kinesio® Taping Method

Posted By cmoser / / No Comments

It sticks, it supports, it even stretches. It’s athletic tape designed for muscle, ligament and tendon pain relief and support.

Used to be, if you hurt a muscle, you could bind your limb with sport tape to stabilize the joint and keep it from moving. But while support and stability are important, muscles need to move to heal. Kinesio® Tape offers strength and stretchability, allowing you to remain active even while recovering from injuries.

Think of it as a super-elastic second skin: it stretches up to 140% of its original length and is approximately the same weight and thickness of skin, so it moves and stays with you. It’s latex-free and durable enough to stay on for several days, even if you work up a sweat or jump in the shower. You’re too busy to be slowed down. So chin up, kick pain to the curb and keep your body moving. It’ll thank you.

Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)/Trigger Point Dry Needling

Posted By cmoser / / No Comments

Sometimes we need a jab to get moving. Literally.

Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)  and Trigger Point Dry Needling are treatments that uses acupuncture needles to address problems with nerves and muscles.

When nerves are injured or irritated, they become supersensitive, and the muscles they supply become shortened and tight. Dr. Chan Gunn, from Vancouver, found that by inserting an acupuncture needle into the tender muscle, the muscle will contract, and then relax or lengthen. This decreases compression on the nerve, and voilà, less pain.

Not just anybody can perform this treatment. Lisa, our certified Gunn IMS practitioner has been trained to recognize the physical signs of neuropathic pain. After a thorough medical history and physical exam, she’ll be able to determine if IMS is an appropriate treatment for you.

Trigger Point Dry Needling creates changes to muscles and connective tissue (fascia) near the needled areas. It also stimulates nerves to help release the body’s own painkillers. Mary is certified in Dry Needling.
