McKenzie Method

Posted By Bronwen Samuel / / No Comments

Is a world-renowned movement assessment system used to diagnose and treat all musculoskeletal injuries. This exercise based approach is effective for chronic spinal pain, acute athletic injuries, headaches, sciatica, numbness, shoulder impingement, ligament sprains, MVA injuries etc. Through a well-reasoned assessment, specific exercises and advice will be prescribed to resolve your symptoms. Often repeated movements in a specific direction can correct the mechanics therefore decreasing pain and improving function. If the problem is more difficult some hands on techniques will be utilized until you can self manage. As you will be able to lessen your pain and improve your mobility with the exercises you will get better faster and need fewer visits. You will be actively involved in your care and have a thorough understanding of the tools needed to treat yourself. You will receive guidance that takes you to a full recovery. Your knowledge of how to treat the problem will prevent future reoccurrences. You’ll be able to rapidly deal with symptoms on your own if they ever reoccur.

If utilized correctly the achievable goals of the McKenzie method are to:

  • Accurately understand the patient’s presentation and behaviour of symptoms.
  • Determine the most appropriate and effective treatment plan.
  • Eliminate symptoms and restore full function.
  • Empower the patient to self treat and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Help inform patients if other medical advice or testing is needed.

Instrument Adhesion Release (IAR®)

Posted By Bronwen Samuel / / No Comments

An instrument based form of manual treatment that is designed to effectively remove adhesion without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. It’s also one of the few instruments on the market that has a proper hands-on training program to teach the provider exactly where and how to treat your problem. Common conditions in which IAR is more effective than MAR or ART are tendinitis of the Achilles and elbows (tendinopathy), forearm pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, anterior shin splints, and plantar fasciitis. Manual Adhesion Release (MAR®)

Posted By Bronwen Samuel / / No Comments

Is one of the leading soft tissue treatments to reduce scar tissue/adhesion. Adhesion is one of the most common causes of pain, but unfortunately it is a condition that is often overlooked. Adhesion acts like glue among muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and even nerves. As a result, this reduces flexibility, strength, and stability to the body. Adhesion along nerves can cause numbness, burning, aching, tension, tingling, and in some cases weakness. This is called nerve entrapment and can happen in an estimated 156 locations throughout the body. Learn more about adhesion and nerve entrapment on our problems page.

Neural Manipulation

Posted By cmoser / / No Comments

Neural Manipulation is a sophisticated technique developed by world renowned French Osteopath Jean Pierre Barral and his collegue Alain Crobier.

This technique allows the practitioner to examine the relationships between the cranium/spine to the dura and neural elements/nerves. Revive practitioners who have been trained in this technique provide assessment, including how restrictions affect the rest of the body, and treatment approaches to address restrictions of the nerves themselves.

This is really important, as a nerve only functions correctly when it is able to move freely within its surrounding structures. And when it moves freely – so can our entire bodies!

Acupuncture and Athletics

Posted By cmoser / / No Comments

The human body is designed for motion and activity, but not for the repetitive action of many of today’s sports. The forceful impact that joints endure on a regular basis eventually results in an injury of some sort or another. The sooner injuries are addressed, the quicker they are to heal.

Acupuncture is an ideal treatment for most sports injuries in that it reduces recovery time, increases range of motion and resolves pain, but it’s actually most beneficial for athletes while they’re training, ‘before’ an injury occurs. Those who incorporate acupuncture as part of their regular training regimen notice better overall performance and energy and sustain fewer injuries. More and more of the world’s leading athletes are turning to acupuncture to get them feeling, moving and performing at their best – but no matter what your level of athleticism is, acupuncture will serve you well. Before you know it, you’ll be back out there doing your thing and doing it better than ever.

Visceral Manipulation

Posted By cmoser / / No Comments

Visceral Manipulation – that’s quite the mouthful. Simply put, it means our specially-trained therapists give you a specific kind of manual therapy to relieve pain. They focus on your internal organs (your viscera) and address any problems the organs have with moving.

Think about it: your internal organs, such as your liver, kidneys and intestines, are in perpetual motion. When you breathe, walk and stretch, they move in your chest and abdomen. Restrict their ability to move, and your body will compensate. But that can lead to pain and other troublesome symptoms, sometimes occurring far away from the source. Imagine scar tissue around the lungs. With every breath you take, the scar tissue alters the normal pattern of movement, and, believe it or not, will likely result in back and neck pain as well as limited shoulder movement.

Our therapists evaluate your entire body to assess the source of the problem and then apply gentle pressure to get your organs moving again as they should. So whether you’re suffering from physical trauma or are affected by infection, pollution or poor posture (who isn’t, really?), Visceral Manipulation can help! Many of our patients feel much better after just three to five sessions.

Acupuncture and Menopause

Posted By cmoser / / No Comments

Menopause really isn’t that bad … said no woman ever. (Thanks for the quote, Someecards, you hit the nail on the head with that one.)

Sure, it’s a natural, transitional phase in a woman’s life, but menopause and all the dandy symptoms that go along with it are far from pleasurable. There’s no need to suffer though. Acupuncture, a gentle and effective alternative to hormone replacement therapy (HRT), can provide relief of many things menopausal. This is a good thing, since menopause can last years for some … and just one day of hot flashes, weight gain and moodiness is enough for anyone. Be cool. Be happy. Call the clinic today and see how acupuncture may be a great way to help you through.
